The objective of this WP is to collect information about the influence of basalt-boron fiber for neutron radiation shielding properties of concrete in case of different fiber dosages, different boron concentrations in basalt fiber and different B-10 enrichment in basalt fiber. The modelling will be performed at the computing cluster of the UT High Performance Computing Center (Rocket and Vedur clusters)
The objective of this WP is to study the influence of basalt-boron fiber to gamma-ray radiation shielding properties of concrete with different fiber dosages, different boron content in basalt fiber and different boron enrichment in basalt fiber. The wide range of fiber dosages, different boron content in basalt fiber and different boron enrichment in basalt fiber will be modelled with help of Serpent Monte Carlo code and WinXCom software. Also, the impact of different heavy aggregates (like barite, MagnaDense etc) to the gamma-ray radiation shielding properties will be investigated.

In period from 25 to 29 September, 2017 in Lanzhou (China) there was held an international workshop “Second Research Coordination Meeting CRP on Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS) – Applications and use of Low-Enriched Uranium” organized by the Lanzhou University (Lanzhou, China), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
INUDECO 2025.
On April 29–30, 2025, the International Conference on Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Recovery was held in Slavutych, Ukraine. Serhii Sereda participated in the event and presented a report titled “New Domestic Material for Radioactive Protection: Fiber Concrete with Modified Basalt Fiber”.
From February 8 to 16, 2025, our team traveled to Riga Technical University (Latvia) and the University of Tartu (Estonia) as part of the EURIZON FELLOWSHIP European staff exchange project funded by the European Union. The main purpose of the trip was to exchange experience, discuss interim research results, and plan further cooperation.
Participants: Yann Le Pape (ORNL), Petr Stemberk (CTU), Zbynek Hlavac, Jaroslav Soltes (CVR) + add coworkers, Volodymir Gulic (Energorisk/NASU), Miguel Ferreira, Anssi Laukkanen (VTT), Veronique Dewynter-Marty, Christophe Imbert, Sebastien Weiller, Benoit Bary (CEA), Julien Sanahuja (EDF), Tapani Eurajoki (Fortum) .
Objectives: The main objective of this WP is experimental testing of hardened concrete samples reinforced with basalt-boron fibers to investigate the most important material parameters. The material properties will be determined based on compressive strength tests, tensile strength tests, three-point bending tests etc. To fulfill the objective of this WP fresh concrete mixes with various doses of basalt-boron fibers of two different types of boron-basalt fibers added will be prepared.
